Laboratory Analyst I

Performs routine technical work in conducting chemical and bacteriological tests. Conducts collections of reservoir/river samples. Performs basic wet chemistry analysis such as hardness/alkalinity/pH/turbidity/temperature/fluoride/various spectrophotometer tests/chlorine residual/odor/conductivity/chlorine dioxide/total and suspended solids/settleable solids/phosphorus/total kjeldahl nitrogen/BOD. Washes glassware used in laboratory testing. Conducts calibrations of equipment/ meters and documents results. Perform algae/bacterial counts. Maintains proper QA/QC procedures. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/biology/related field preferred. Two (2) or more years experience in laboratory related work required. Prior experience in lab testing of water/wastewater preferred. Must be able to pass IDC to produce acceptable data for required instrumentation.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related field preferred. Two (2) or more years experience in laboratory related work required. Prior experience in lab testing of water or wastewater preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license. No more than six (6) demerit points on driving record if required to drive Water Authority vehicles.
- Must be able to pass IDC to produce acceptable data for required instrumentation.
