The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity’s (OMA&D) has an outstanding opportunity for a Counseling Services Coordinator.
The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity’s (OMA&D) mission is to create pathways for diverse populations to access postsecondary opportunities, nurture and support their academic success, and cultivate a campus climate that enriches the educational experience for all.
Under the supervision of the Director of EOP, the Counseling Services Coordinator is responsible for teaching a wide variety of skills to EOP Scholars Academy students in preparing and assisting them with courses at the University level and transition to college life. Primary responsibilities are planning and delivering EOP Scholars Academy seminars, workshops, and cohort learning experiences and providing guidance to EOP Scholars Academy Mentors about their role in first-year class meetings and activities.
In addition, the individual in this role will oversee day-to-day staffing and supervision of ACS Peer Advisers including scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the student employees. The CSC will ensure that the peer advising team is trained and prepared to meet with students in drop-in meetings and will support peers as they triage more complex student concerns for handoff to professional advisers.
Finally, the individual in this position will provide substantive advising and student services for undergraduates, focusing on those who have undeclared academic interests, who are preparing for admission to majors, who are pre-professional students, or who are changing their academic goals. Important aspects of the work include development and holistic counseling, attention to detail, and frequent contact with the University’s administrative system.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
EOP SCHOLARS & ADVISING
• Develop and implement EOP Scholars Academy seminars & workshops to assist students in their academic progress and meet program goals and objectives. Build and administer curricular and co-curricular programming designed to increase EOP Scholars Academy student participation and success in UW courses and majors. (20%)
• Teach EOP Scholars Academy participants various levels of inquiry from basic skills to advanced levels in a variety of courses; Develop curriculum materials as needed; provide individualized & group instruction sessions. (15%)
• Document and monitor students’ needs and progress with attendance and student contract requirements, performance and grades, for evaluation activities. (5%)
• Advise students, in cooperation with EOP counselors, on a broad range of academic needs. Advise the EOP director and staff of academic requirements or curriculum changes; participation in periodic meetings with staff to monitor and evaluate program. (15%)
ACS PEER ADVISER SUPERVISOR
• Provide leadership and coordination of the ACS Peer Adviser team. (40%)
- Oversee day-to-day staffing and supervision of ACS Peer Advisers including scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of the student employees.
- Coordinate the ongoing training for ACS Peer Advisers.
- In collaboration with HR and Fiscal leads in OMA&D ACS, manage staffing patterns that align with ACS Peer Advisers budget.
• Independently represent OMA&D programs during meetings, campus functions and other partner collaborative events. (5%)
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Communication or a related field and 2- 3 years’ experience:
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering instructional content;
- Demonstrated history of working with a diverse multicultural student population, which includes working with low income, first generation, and/or underrepresented populations;
• Strong organizational skills, including strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
