Lecturer, Open Rank in Communication

The Department of Communication in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time Lecturer, Open Rank in Communication with an anticipated start date of August 16th, 2024.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:
Duties include a 4/4 teaching load at the lower-division level, with the potential to teach at least one large-lecture course (150-300 students, with teaching assistant support). We seek a candidate with teaching experience in mass communication, media and culture, and/or digital and media literacy.

Initial terms for lecturers are for one year. The nine-month appointment begins August, 16th 2024 and ends May 15th, 2025); contracts may be renewed for additional terms based on departmental needs, funding ability, and candidate performance. A minimum of a Master's degree in Communication is required as is the college-level teaching experience in the areas noted above.

About the Department:
The Department of Communication offers a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Communication with undergraduate major options in business and organizational communication, digital and mass communication, healthcare communication, human communication, and sport communication, as well as a minor in communication and an Undergraduate Certificate in health communication.

About the College:
The College of Communication and Information is composed of two schools (School of Information
Science and School of Journalism and Media), two departments (Department of Communication and Department of Integrated Strategic Communication), and interdisciplinary master's and PhD programs. More than 80 full-time faculty lead nearly 2,000 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students while also teaching in the university's core curriculum and serving students pursuing minors and certificates in the college. The college also houses University of Kentucky's independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the championship winning Intercollegiate Debate Team.
