MARINE SAFETY MANAGER

The Marine Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safe operation of marine transportation and related activities for Smith Marine Towing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze incident reports and trends to develop strategies for accident prevention.
• Ensure the organization’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Develop and deliver training programs on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness.
• Lead investigation into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
• Manage implementation of company’s Towing Safety Management System (TSMS) including revisions to, and associated material.
• Conduct inspections and audits: Regularly inspect vessels, terminals, equipment, and facilities to assess compliance with safety standards
• Provide safety training and guidance: develop and deliver training program s to educate and train employee, contactors and crew members on safety procedures, energy response protocol and best practices. Provide ongoing safety guidance and support to personnel to promote a culture of safety awareness.
• Regulatory compliance; stay abreast of relevant local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to marine safety. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies. Assist vessel compliance to maintain valid Certificate of Inspection (Subchapter M).
• Safety recordkeeping and documentation; maintain accurate records of safety related activities, including inspection, incidents, training and audits. Ensure proper documentation of safety policies, procedures and reports Ensure document control of required USCG and TSMS documentation requirements.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in similar HSE role.
• Proven track record of successful implementation of safety and environmental programs.
• In depth understanding of local, state and federal HSE regulations
• Experience in marine transportation, maritime studies, occupational safety or a related field.
• Proven experience in marine operations, safety management, or any related maritime vessel safety experience.
