About the Institute:

The EnMed institute brings together faculty and students across the College who have mutual interests in the application of engineering concepts and tools to positively impact patient outcomes and human performance in the local Hampton Roads community, the State of Virginia, and beyond. As an interdisciplinary home for biomedical research, EnMed is founded on unique academic, industrial, and military footprints at ODU and in Hampton Roads. In its unique mission, the EnMed Institute differentiates itself from other biomedical research institutes through its holistic perspective of engineering within human health and wellness. The vision of EnMed is to be recognized as a leader of innovation and discovery in interdisciplinary research that prepares a talent pool of future biomedical engineers.

The EnMed Institute will leverage the pioneering innovations by faculty, ODU research centers such as the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics and the Virginia Modeling and Simulation Center (VMASC), symbiotic collaborations with the military, space, and nuclear physics communities, and ODU's historic footprint in computer simulation. The EnMed institute is also poised to bridge the BCET with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), effectively utilizing the upcoming merger of EVMS and ODU. The future of EnMed lies in its unique and unparalleled commitment to revolutionizing therapies and diagnostics, computer-assisted medicine, and biomechanics.
