Mattern & Craig, an employee-owned Civil Engineering and Land Surveying firm, is seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief for our Roanoke, VA office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Keeps clear and accurate field notes by recording all significant data.
• Records on a daily basis in the field book a record of the amount of progress made that day.
• Ensures that data collectors are downloaded on a daily basis (if needed), and reviews a print of each day's field file.
• Uses proper safety equipment and follows proper safety field procedures. The Party Chief is responsible for the safety of the crew, vehicles, and equipment, and the public's interest.
• Resolves their own project-related problems and consults with the Survey Manager or Survey Supervisor when there are scheduling issues.
• Portrays a professional appearance by wearing the appropriate clothing in the particular work environment.
• Assists in developing and maintaining project budgets and schedules, specific to surveying projects and phases. Assists in maintaining the technical and financial performance of the survey team's budgets.
• Follows and complies with, when applicable, state and firm field procedures, using them to ensure that the field data is in the proper format, taking into account the fact that each job will have its own peculiarities.
• Ensures proper maintenance of assigned vehicle
• Thoroughly understands the scope of the project. If this is not made clear by the Project Manager, the Survey Manager, or the Survey Supervisor, asks questions in order to properly execute the survey.
• Always communicates with the Survey Supervisor, or other office personnel working with them, at the beginning or end of each day.
• Reviews final survey products prior to delivery to design team.
• Performs all other assigned related duties
• Some overnight travel may be required
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying from an accredited four-year college or university or an Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 4 years related experience preferred. Minimum 3 years of surveying experience in appropriate field relevant surveying.
• The Education and/or Experience requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Valid driver's license relevant to the State of the office assigned
• Able to perform physical labor (i.e. strenuous walking, lifting CB grates/MH covers, hauling equipment, etc.).
