This position is responsible for direct oversight and management of Counseling Services to include personnel management, operations evaluation, policy formation, logistics, and strategic planning. The Manager also serves as the primary liaison from Counseling Services to the college and surrounding community. As a licensed mental health professional, the Manager provides direct counseling and education services to students, and consultation to students, faculty, and staff. The Manager ensures staff and programs work collaboratively and effectively with other areas of the college.

- Provide supervision, clinical consultation and leadership for counselors and counseling services.

- Collaborate as a member of the threat assessment team to evaluate, assess, and respond to campus threats; and collaborate with administrators to assess and support distressed students.

- Make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Provide outstanding customer services and serve as a positive representative of the department and the student services division with the goal of improving student learning and success.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of counseling theory and intervention strategies; interviewing and communications techniques; community college philosophy; Kirkwood programs, policies and procedures; community agencies, resources and referral procedures; issues in mental health, substance abuse and conflict resolution.
- Possess a solid working knowledge of college student development, including the needs of diverse learners, and student services in general.
- Communicate effectively through written and oral and electronic means; possess functional knowledge of the Colleague student database, Titanium calendar, Word, Excel, Power Point, and other commonly used computer programs.
- Manage a diverse variety of work duties efficiently, effectively and independently in an environment with regular interruption.

Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in mental health counseling or related field plus five years counseling experience.
- At least two years experience supervising counselors in a clinical setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work as a member of a diverse team.
- A demonstrated ability to work with clients with diverse needs and backgrounds.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa as a mental health counselor or clinical social worker.
- Must be eligible to serve as a clinical supervisor for counselors in the state of Iowa.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Experience writing counseling center policies and procedures is preferred.
- Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
