The State Training School (STS) at Eldora offers a holistic, social, behavioral, psychiatric, academic, and vocational program that utilizes supportive counseling, behavioral health treatment, and consequences paired with praise and opportunity to males, ages 12 to 18 years old who have been adjudicated delinquent. Services and programs provide individualized evaluation and treatment, and offer comprehensive education with the goal of transitioning young men back to the community. The psychologists, counselors, substance abuse professionals and others at the STS are integral to the successful outcome of young men at the facility. The facility is operated by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).

Phenomenal hours!! 7:00 am-3:30 pm Monday- Friday. 9 Paid Holidays!

The program available for residents includes:

  • General education studies
  • Special education programs
  • Title I
  • Competency-based vocational programs
  • High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly GED)

Psychologist 2

The Psychologists at the STS are integral to the successful outcome of young men at the facility. DHS is currently recruiting for a Psychologist 2 to provide counseling and related therapy as part of a treatment team. If you enjoy challenging, yet rewarding work helping students find stability in their lives and security in their future, and are proficient in –

  • Working with and/or providing supervision as part of a treatment team to provide behavior management solutions to students with mental disorders
  • Handling a diverse caseload of emotionally disordered students
  • Counseling and behavior modification programs for the young men in our facility
  • Providing both individual and group counseling

Salary $55,182.40 - $85,633.59 Annually

Psychologist 3

The Psychologists at the STS are integral to the successful outcome of young men at the facility. DHS is currently recruiting for a Psychologist 3 to provide counseling and related therapy as part of a treatment team. Our Psychologist 3 will also provide direction and supervision to the team and to at least one other Psychologist. If you enjoy challenging, yet rewarding work helping students find stability in their lives and security in their future, and are proficient in –

  • Overseeing a weekly caseload of emotionally disordered students
  • Designing behavior modification programs and training staff in their implementation
  • Providing both individual and group counseling

Salary $60,840.00 - $94,099.20 Annually

Social Worker 4

At the State Training School the Social Worker 4 will be an integral key to a successful outcome for these young men. DHS is currently recruiting for a Social Worker 4 to provide counseling and related therapy as part of a treatment team. Our Social Worker 4 will also provide direction and supervision to the team and to some of the other Psychologists. If you enjoy challenging, yet rewarding work helping students find stability in their lives and security in their future, and are proficient in –

  • Working with and/or providing supervision as part of a treatment team to provide behavior management solutions to students with mental disorders
  • Overseeing a weekly caseload of emotionally disordered students
  • Designing behavior modification programs and training staff in their implementation
  • Providing both individual and group counseling

Salary $49,462.40 - $74,984.00 Annually

The State Training School provides an environment rich in psychological challenges that will allow you to practice your craft in a meaningful manor with no boring days. The State Training School is located in Eldora, Iowa, home of the Pine Lake State Park which offers an array of outdoor recreational activities. Eldora is an Iowa River Greenbelt Community featuring quaint shops, eating choices, and plenty of family friendly activity. The Iowa River Greenbelt Scenic Drive is a must do which winds through a picturesque landscape of valleys, woods and streams. Eldora is 45 minutes from Ames and Cedar Falls and only 22 minutes from Iowa Falls.
