Position Summary

We are excited to welcome a new member to the SPDC team in a role dedicated to the growth and strategic development of pre-health support for students pursuing medical, dental, physician assistant, physical therapy, and other health-aligned graduate/professional school programs. Working collaboratively with the Director of Pre-Health Advising, this position will be a connector for students, assuring that they're tracking toward their goals and working with pre-health resources throughout campus. The Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for coordinating with current faculty and staff to create effective programming which will increase the number of students who are interested in pursuing health professions post-graduation. This support will include 1:1 student meetings, tracking student engagement, the creation of online resources, webinars, panels, workshops, and larger events. Additionally, this position will support students pursuing other graduate school programs, post-graduation.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience with the following relevant work experience: Preferred previous experience includes working with career services or academic advising in higher education, recruiting or human resources in industry.

The candidate will be selected based on education, credentials, and experience to determine Assistant/Associate title.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field.

Job Duties
  • Meet 1:1 with students interested in pursuing pre-health/healthcare, providing career advising, application support, and resources. Act as a connector for students, referring them to the Director of Pre-Health Advising, among others. Meet 1:1 with students pursuing graduate and professional school providing career advising, application support, and resources. Meet with students in-person, virtually, and via phone to discuss all facets of their professional development including but not limited to: resume reviews, cover letter reviews, mock interviews, offer discussion, networking, job and internship search, and career and major exploration. Support student career advising through hosting drop-in hours regularly. Tailor advising sessions to meet the unique professional development needs of each individual.
  • Standardize content and messaging to be delivered to faculty who are working with or advising pre-health students, especially those outside of the STEM majors. Build awareness of pre-health services across campus. Coordinate consistent pre-health programming throughout the year, including panels, workshops, and other relevant student engagement/education opportunities. Collaborate on programming for Pre-Health Society, Pre-Health Scholars, Public Health Scholars, and Pre-Health Leadership Fellows Build an alumni database; follow up with alumni who are actively engaging in the application process, or require additional service/experience before applying to graduate/professional programs. Lead the reimagination of and heavily assist with the execution of the on-campus Graduate and Professional School Fair. Connect with Elon partners in health professions. Work with campus partners (Odyssey Scholars, First Generation, Access and Success, Elon Academy, among others) to assure pre-health students from historically marginalized communities are receiving the support needed to be successful.
  • Update and monitor website resources. Work with the Associate Director of Communications for the Student Professional Development Center to create pre-health content for appropriate social media channels. Maintain a comprehensive database of pre-health students, assist with tracking of student progress toward application and acceptance into desired programs(s). Join the National Association of Advisors in Health Professions, act as an active member, continuously building knowledge within the field. -
  • Collaborate with the Arts & Science faculty and staff, SPDC career development staff, and additional staff members across campus to support campus-wide career programming
