Prevention Specialist, Family Wellness

Prevention Specialists plan, implement, document and evaluate substance abuse, violence prevention, and/or mental health services for children, youth and young adults (18-24), parents, and community members in school and community settings to decrease substance abuse and other risky behaviors and strengthen protective factors. This position is Full Time and is funded by the Family Wellness Initiative Grant.
Prevention Specialists provide training and education through PowerPoint presentations, public speaking, small group facilitation and meetings to targeted populations, to promote the effectiveness of prevention concepts, best practices and strategies to reduce substance abuse, violence, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)and to promote community resilience. . They develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with multiple community and organizational partners to enhance the provision of services and assist with the assessment and referral of individuals needing additional services. They utilize a variety of best practices, evidence-based programs and other strategies, in collaboration with multiple community partners and coalition members, to develop and implement prevention plans to reduce substance abuse community-wide. This position will focus specifically on skills based parent education, promoting healthy lifestyles, and educating the community about ACES.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in human services field
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs prevention/education or related field and knowledge of the effects of substance abuse on children, adolescents and/or young adults and families.
- Good Driving Record: Must have a good driving record (no more than two moving violations in the last three years and no criminal violations in the last five years).
Skills:
- Must be skilled at developing rapport with other organizations, including school personnel, and maintaining working relationships that support the implementation of prevention services.
- Public speaking, leadership, and group facilitation
- Clear understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with individuals and the professional staff in partner agencies.
- Knowledge and understanding of data collection, evaluation processes, and reporting outcomes.
- Utilizing social media platforms to promote services and connect with program participants.
- Computer skills in working in the Microsoft environment including Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Windows, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
